Randall G. Melchert OD has contributed to advancements in the optical field, particularly in the development and evaluation of innovative lenses. These include tinted lenses, oxygen-permeable contact lenses, and products designed for those with color blindness. His practice was among the early adopters of Optos Optomap retinal imaging, an essential tool for early disease detection.

He holds membership with the American Optometric Association and has served as president of the Kettle Moraine Optometric Society. He has also been part of the boards at Prevent Blindness-Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Optometric Association, extending his influence in the broader optometric community.

Dr. Randall G. Melchert OD earned his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1978 from the Illinois College of Optometry. Before that, he attended several campuses within the University of Wisconsin system, including Madison, Oshkosh, and Fox Valley. While at ICO, he served as Class Treasurer and was recognized with the Eugene W. Strawn Award for Leadership and Service.

His clinic, Melchert Eye Care, was founded in 1978 and operates with the motto, “Your vision is our passion.” The practice offers a full range of services, from routine eye exams to personalized eyewear options. Patients receive care from a skilled team committed to providing a supportive and respectful experience.

Dr. Melchert’s professional work has always been closely tied to his charitable efforts. He has participated in mission trips to locations including Thailand, Panama, Jordan, and the Dominican Republic. He has also offered outreach in underserved urban areas such as New York City and worked with organizations like Prevent Blindness and Samaritan’s Purse. Additionally, he has accompanied veterans on Honor Flights to Washington, D.C., providing support during their visits to the memorials.

His personal life is rooted in faith. He has held leadership roles in his church, supported missionary efforts, and remains active at Brookside Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Board of Deacons and sings in the choir.

Outside of work and faith-based activities, Dr. Melchert enjoys following the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, reading, and visiting historical museums. He also values time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren, taking part in family activities whenever possible.

Optometrist Randall Melchert serves as president of VCY America, a Christian media organization, and is involved in restoring the Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse. Dr. Melchert continues to serve his community with integrity, care, and a lasting commitment to eye health.
